                  Student Community Service Program

    The Student Service Program at LaSalle High School encourages and recognizes students who are making significant contributions to their community.  Recognition will be given by conferring Community Service Cords each year at graduation.
     
    This is a voluntary program that recognizes students for contributing time and energy for the betterment of their community by participating in activities that provide services that help to improve the quality of life of others.
     
    Points for service credit can be earned throughout a student's high school years by participating in activities and with organizations such as, but not limited to:
     
    Red Cross Blood Drive      Hospital Volunteer              Summer Camps    
    Public Library                   Hope Chest/Food Pantry     Forest Clean-up
    Adopt a Highway              United Way                       Crop Walk
    Easter Seals                    Tutoring                            Relay for Life
    Animal Shelter                 Senior Centers                  Adopt a Family
    Chamber of Commerce     Nursing Homes                  Raking Leaves    
    Camp Counselor               Pep Band Performances     Food Drives
    Snow Shoveling               Community Service Club Activities
    Little Bear East
             
    Activities that do not come under the guidelines of the program:
    • Regular church attendance
    • Regular club attendance
    • Activities for which you receive a grade or class credit  
    • Political campaigns
    • Service as a result of punishment
    • Service activity that occurs during the school day
    • Service performed for a family member
    Students must complete a minimum of 120 hours of community service that are approved by the community service committee prior to May 1st of their senior year to receive Community Service Cords.
     
    Community service hours should be recorded and submitted within 30 days of completion of the project or work.  The person supervising the activity must sign the service slip.  Whenever possible, the person supervising and signing the service slip should not be the student's parent.  Students can check their total cumulative service hours at any time in the guidance office.  Completed service forms are kept in each student's EDP folder.
